Here’s a video clip about the ‘I’m a councillor – get me out of here’ project – and here’s a bit of background to the film.

It’s a really brilliant project – where local authorities have any interest in being creative about the way councillors engage with young people (a learning experience – and not just a one-way one as well!), I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
I first became aware of it around 2003 (I think) and each year, dozens of councils have tried it, finding the obstacles and tweaking the offering.

Paul,
Thanks for sharing this on your blog. Last time I counted we had run the event in over 70 councils.
It’ll be interesting to see if many of the restructured councils use it to help explain their new role.
Hi Paul,
Do you know if this is only available to secondary school kids? Checked the website but couldn’t find any information on the age range it is designed to serve. I think pupils in years 5 and 6 could get value out of this too.
Hi Ade,
It is designed for Years 9/10 but all age groups from year 6 through to sixth form have taken part and got lots out of it.
They tend to ask different questions (younger students ask about being a councillor, older ones about issues) but they do co-exist on the site nicely together.
